Kyushu is the land of hot springs, and onsens are everywhere. But in summer, it's great for hiking, exploring the numerous cities that dot the landscape and for taking scenic train rides.
Kyushu, the most volcanic of Japan's islands, is a lovely mix of the rural and the urban. We spent some time in cities; trekked the countryside and sampled macrobiotic restaurants.
