I Miss You More Than Words Can Say

I Miss You More Than Words Can Say is a text-based work exploring our dialectical relationships with food and self that may be defined by societal influences and political responses. The work consists of floor PVC stickers with the text “I Miss You More Than Words Can Say” translated into Singapore’s four national languages - English, Tamil, Malay and Mandarin. Through the various translations, the interpretations of the words in each language may deviate slightly from one another. As we reflect on the text and how it may resonate for each individual, we also consider the hawker and patron relationship dynamics amid changing government regulations trying to cope with the latest COVID-19 situation. As the artwork deteriorates and weathers away onsite, we are left to ponder on the fragility of durational relationships when what is left are remnants of distant memories.

INSPIRATION
The local news about regulations trying to cope with the latest COVID-19 situation at hawker centres and F&B outlets were the main source of inspiration to I Miss You More than Words Can Say.
